Two years ago, I stepped into a new chapter — and I never imagined just how fulfilling it would be

On September 1, 2023, I officially stepped away from my role as CEO of United Way Kingston after 32 wonderful years with the United Way movement and a lifetime of working alongside leaders in the nonprofit sector. I wasn’t sure exactly what “retirement” would look like… but I knew I wasn’t done giving back.

Since then, I’ve had the incredible privilege of partnering with so many amazing nonprofits — each doing vital work in their communities. It’s been humbling to learn from them, roll up my sleeves with them, and contribute in whatever way I can.

Since stepping away from full-time leadership, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to 36 projects across the nonprofit sector. The visual below offers a quick look at what that work has encompassed. And something I’m especially proud of: 25% of this work has been pro bono or offered at a reduced rate.

Alongside this, I’ve continued to give back through pro bono executive coaching, and volunteering – on the Board of Providence Village, Co-lead of the Oasis National initiative, Honorary Colonel, 77 Line Regiment, Co-chair of the Anti-Racism Task Force, the Homelessness Collective Impact Committee, and the UWCC Diversity Council.

And last year, I was deeply honoured to receive the Order of Ontario, the province’s highest civilian honour.

I’ve also made space for nearly four months of travel and rest — time to recharge, reflect, and reconnect with the people and places I love.

Grateful doesn’t begin to cover it. Thank you to all my friends, colleagues, and fellow changemakers — for your trust, your energy, your inspiration, and your unwavering belief in stronger, more compassionate communities.

Here’s to continuing the journey together.

“36 projects. 2 years. Grateful for every one.”

And—something I’m especially proud of—25% of this work has been offered pro bono or at a reduced rate.

Along the way, I’ve also enjoyed offering pro-bono executive coaching and volunteering on the Board of Providence Village, the Oasis National initiative, continuing my role as Honorary Colonel of the 77 Line Regiment, and co-chair of the Anti-Racism Task Force, Homelessness Collective Impact Committee, UWCC Diversity Council… plus carving out time for almost 4 months of vacation to travel, recharge, and reflect.

Grateful for all my friends and colleagues for their positive energy and inspiration, and for every conversation, challenge, and shared moment with the people and organizations working so hard to make our communities stronger. Here’s to continuing the journey together. 💛
